PEC at NASA Moonbuggy Race 2009
Chandigarh, April 20th 2009
PEC is the first Indian university whose teams have completed the Simulated Lunar Surface track at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, Huntsville, Alabama at the Moonbuggy race held in the first week of April 2009.
Two teams from PEC had participated in the race:

Team I: Kalpana
Team Kalpana was formed to represent PEC at the Great Moonbuggy Race 2009 in memory of its alumni, NASA Astronaut Kalpana Chawla. The team comprised of:
Apoorv Devgan (Team Leader),Final Year, Mechanical Engineering
Khagesh Kaushal, Final Year, Mechanical Engineering
Akash Joshi, Final Year, Production
Arjun Tuteja,Final Year, Mechanical Engineering
Sahib Singh,Second Year, Aeronautical Engineering
Kismat Virk, Second Year, Aeronautical Engineering

The team was supported by Chandigarh Administration, Kalpana Chawla Memorial Foundation, The PEC Alumni Society (PALS) and PEC Old Students Association (PECOSA). The team’s sponsors included PUMA and Matrix Cellular. PEC Alumni Society (PALS) members contributed USD 2,000 to help team Kalpana compete at the NASA event.
Accomplishments:
The team was the first Indian team ever to cover the Simulated Lunar Surface Track at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in its first attempt itself. The team was also 3rd amongst International Universities and 4th amongst Rookies and 14th overall.
