     PEC to start course for keeping info safe

Chandigarh, September 6th 2009

It is said that information is power. And the corporate world does not want others to tap into its ‘batteries’ in these days of the world wide web. That has created a need for personnel who can protect information and detect cyber crime. To meet this demand, Punjab Engineering College has decided to start a postgraduate degree course in information security.

The curriculum is being worked out and the first batch with 25 seats will commence in 2010. Chief of National Association of Software and Services Companies, Pramod Bhasin, had also emphasized on meeting this need during the e-revolution conclave in city on Thursday.

Chandigarh administration and PEC are already running a Cyber Security Research Centre (CSRC) in city. Sources told TOI that senior officials from various law enforcing agencies had expressed their desire to participate in such a course.
