Pecobians reunite at PECOSA Annual Meet

The Annual Alumni meet at PEC was organized by PEC University of Technology and PECOSA (PEC Old Students Association) on 19th December 2009. Alumni from batches extending from 1960 to 2005 were present. PECOSA president Dr Dharinder Tayal welcomed the PEC alumni on the occasion and said it was momentous occasion for PEC to have its former students in such a large number. The chief guest at the occasion was Sh. Pawan Kumar Bansal, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Water Resources. In his presidential address, he remarked that PEC was a prestigious landmark in the field of engineering. “The institute has illustrious alumni, including astronaut Kalpana Chawla, and Madan Lal Singla, who was the leader of the team that designed the Chandrayan probe. I appeal to all alumni to support social, economic and academic causes of the college in the best possible way,” he said.
The chairman of BOG, Padam Shree Chander Mohan ji, welcomed the alumni. He focused on the challenges of the 21st century and highlighted the challenges that PEC University of Technology was going to face and conquer. He urged the alumni to renew their connection with the institute by the means of planned annual meets. He stressed that the only means to make technical education relevant was to have deep links with the industry and the users.
Director Dr. Manoj Datta extended a warm welcome to the alumni. He highlighted the heritage of PEC and the recent developments in fields of R&D, Consultancy and also the MoUs signed with various international universities and industry leaders. He also thanked the alumni for providing their support to the college and encouraging the students by means of awards, scholarships, showcased travel grants, etc. The Director discussed the roadmap of the college for the next 5 years and the infrastructure developments to be undertaken.
The Director was presented a framed cartoon sketch by the alumni of the 1960 batch. The sketch was of a cartoon depicting a spoof of liberty given to the students in college. Chairman Central Electricity Authority Rakesh Nath, an alumnus rightly said, "There are 2 types of people in the world: Those who are alumni of this college, and those who aren't". Alumnus Mr. Jaspal Bhatti remembered his days in college and shared his light moments of the college life taking the other alumni into rib tickling laughs. He mentioned how this college had an important role in giving him a headstart in his career.
The spouses and children of the alumni had their share of fun and entertainment by playing games like antakshari, musical chairs and tambola in the games area. At night, the alumni were entertained by the performance of a rock band and everyone danced to the tunes of a D.J. while relishing the dinner. Alumni of 1960, 1975, 1985 and 1995 batches were honoured at the Alumni meet.
