Chandigarh, January 20th 2010

Formula Society of Automative Engineers organized a competition in Melbourne (Australia) from 10th – 13th December 2009. A team of 12 students comprising of Angad Singh, the team leader, Apoorav Mahajan, Arjun Wadwalkar, Arnab Chanda, Digvijay Singh, Gagandeep Singh Bhatia, Kapileshwar Singh, Mukul Aggarwal, Navdeep, Rajat Bhardwaj, Vaibhav Nangia, Vidur Gupta from PEC University of Technology participated in the event.
They were guided by faculty advisor Dr. D.R. Prajapati.

The FSAE team received sponsorship worth approximately Rs 25 lakhs for this project. The main sponsors were UT Administration, Punjab government, Trident India, Mount Shiwalik Breweries, Dattarwal Construction, Gawar Construction, and Neeraj Builders.

The team designed a small formula type racing car over a period of five months and it was manufactured in one and a half months. It was the cheapest car in the competition with the lowest net manufacturing cost. The car bagged position 9th in cost and 22nd in design, which was very impressive for a rookie team. It was the only Indian car to feature in the competition with features like simplicity in design, novelty and cost effectiveness. PEC’s FSAE team managed to take part in the technical inspection as well as all the static events barring noise and pollution. Pat Clarke, a legend in motor sports, said he really looked forward to what the team from PEC would do next year with the experience of one Formula SAE behind them.
