     PEC holds annual alumni meet

More than ­­300 alumni of PEC University of Technology, converged at their alma mater on 22nd December, 2012, for the Alumni Meet organized by PECOSA (Punjab Engineering College Old Students Association) in association with PEC University of Technology. His Excellency Shri Shivraj V. Patil, Governor Punjab & Administrator U.T. Chandigarh, was the Chief Guest for the event.

The governor talked about how the students of PEC will play a major role in the advent of solar technologies in Chandigarh. PECOSA president Mr. Malvinder Singh welcomed the PEC alumni on the occasion and said that it was momentous occasion for PEC to have its former students converge in such a large numbers.

Director Dr. Manoj Datta gave a presentation about the growth of the college since its inception and also discussed about the ongoing projects in the college. He thanked the alumni for encouraging the students by means of awards, scholarships, travel grants, etc. The passing out batches of 1963 (Golden Jubilee), 1978 (35 years), 1988 (Silver Jubilee) and 1998 (15 years) were felicitated. A sumptuous meal awaited them at their favourite Shivalik Hostel.The meet began in the morning at 10.30 with inauguration of Mechatronics Lab by Padam Shri Chandra Mohan (former Chairman of BoG of PEC). This lab has been established by PEC alumni of 1988 batch with total cost of Rs 15.00 lacs contributed by them.

An eminent alumnus of our college Er. Jaspal Bhatti left for his heavenly abode in October this year. His batch mates have created a corpus worth 3.5 lacs in his memory. Every year the cultural evening held in September will be dedicated to his memory. Mrs Savita Bhatti, wife of Late Jaspal Bhatti and his family members were also present during the event. Prof KK Garg said about the life of Mr Jaspal Bhatti and called him a real hero. He mentioned that there is no one in this world who can take the place of Mr.Bhatti. “Instead of creating a corpus fund everyone should imbibe the values of Mr. Jaspal Bhatti and must act against the evils of the society”, said Prof. KK Garg.

The spouses and children of the alumni had their share of fun and entertainment by playing games like tug of war, antakshari, tambola in the cricket ground. At night, the alumni had a good time with live music, dance, cultural program and fireworks. “Can't miss out on this one. It’s here we became who we are and made lasting friends,” said Gurwin Singh, an alumnus of the 1988 batch. “It was a rare opportunity to reminisce on the old times and find out more about what is happening in the College.” said Mr Anupam Bhasin.
