S.A.S. Nagar, JUNE 5th 2006, Express News Service

Soon all of Mohali will be literally at the fingertips of anyone who is interested in the township — a soon to be ready project will make available all information about Mohali on the net.

The project started by Punjab Engineering College last year for the Mohali Municipal Council will be ready in a month’s time from now and will provide information on government departments, industries, residential areas, etc. Today, the officials of PEC gave a demonstration of the work to SDM Mohali Sandeep Hans, who is also Administrator of the Mohali Municipal Council.

According to the information, the project will map the township digitally. It will be possible even to locate the position of water supply and sewerage pipes of the township. Sandeep Hans told Newsline today that after the demonstration, Dr S C Dhawan from PEC had ensured them of completing the job within one month’s time.

He said that the data was being loaded on to the computer and would then be available on the net. "It would be very beneficial for the MC as it has to deal with the water supply and sewerage system. Any fault in any area will now be sorted out in lesser time with the availability of maps in the office," he said.

Also, the details of the owner of the house, flat, industry or institution and the size of plots and flats in different areas, the kind and size of the industry, institution, etc would be available in the survey.

Hans said the Public Health and Sewerage Department have been directed to furnish all details to be put on the net.
